The Olympia Communicators Group is an organization of Olympia, Washington area communicators--professionals in public relations,
public affairs, advertising, marketing, etc., who meet monthly over a brown bag lunch. It's an opportunity to network and
to learn something from guest speakers and each other, without spending much time. There are no dues, no by-laws, or annual
reports. THE KIS (Keep It Simple) Rule applies. Even so, the OCG has now met regularly for over eleven years.
The meetings are held from noon to one on the first Wednesday of each month. Although the locations are not fixed, we most
frequently meet at the Association of Washington School Principals, 8th and Eastside Streets, Olympia, Washington. Changes
are posted in the OCG News Service, this web site or other announcements.
To join the Olympia Communicators Group, send an e-mail to caglels@comcast.net.

THE NEXT OCG
BROWN BAG LUNCH
What: Olympia Communicators Group Brown Bag Lunch
When: Wed, September 3, 2008 (noon to 1
p.m.)
Where: Association of Washington School
Principals, 1021 8th Ave (8th and Eastside), Olympia
Topic and Presenter:
“Media outreach
tips for event planning”
You may not be planning
a party for 400,000 visitors, but if a major event is in your future and you’re utilizing volunteers to help accomplish
your goals, the experiences from Tall Ships Tacoma 2008 could be worth hearing. Issues from planning ahead, to accrediting
media, to providing story ideas will be discussed.
Our presenter will be Matthew Erlich, media relations/PR manager for Tacoma Goodwill,
who volunteered as Media
Center manager for the event that brought 30 tall ships to Commencement Bay over the Fourth of July weekend.
Erlich has more than 17 years of experience as an award-winning reporter and editor for newspapers in Eastern and Western Washington. His additional experience includes work as communications manager for the Washington
Public Ports Association, and as a senior account executive for two PR firms. His insights from being on “both sides
of the fence” will help all of us as we enter into the event season.

funding to support the Providence mission of providing essential medical care to those in need.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Help coordinate and distribute promotional materials such as fliers and letter campaigns.
- Attend one meeting per month starting in September.
- Dedicate necessary time to implement confirmed promotional tactics.

position ideal for someone who is willing to be an active member of the committee and who is looking for a way to be involved
in his/her community. This position works closely with the Christmas Forest Event Manager.
