Not everything (in fact, some might say not much) that communicators do is for pay. Here are announcements of volunteer opportunities provided to us by OCG members.

POSSCA seeks savvy volunteer PR support (Posted Sep 25)

The greatest little arts board in South Sound needs some savvy PR support. Patrons of South Sound Cultural Arts – POSSCA – is a long-standing non-profit organization that funds two education-centric programs, as well as activities that support a rich and diverse community culture.

Scholarships for high school seniors who continue their arts study at the college level.

§         Six talented scholarship winners in 2008 – musicians, actors and writers, who have the funds to make their creative mark in higher ed.

CAPS, which puts musical instruments into the hands of kids whose families can’t afford to buy or rent an instrument.

§         This year, districts across South Sound will hand 32 low-income kids the price of admission to a school music program.

Community culture. We raise money for public art, and the building and renovation of local performance spaces.

§         Ever pass the Kissing Couple statue at Percival Landing? POSSCA joined a group of local funders who made it happen.

We have a terrific story to tell and just need someone to tell it.

Eat. Drink. Dig the Live Music. Our big fundraiser – coming up in July 2009 – is the OlyBite. We’ll take over the Port Plaza for this amazing food, wine and entertainment event. Some of the best chefs in our region will cook their signature dishes. In the Wine & Spirits Garden – Washington vintners and microbrewers will thrill the palette with South Sound’s remarkable potables. And, on the OlyBite main stage – we’re lining up some terrific local talent.

We’re looking for a media specialist…

… to join the POSSCA board and lead the development and implementation of a smart marketing strategy. We’d also like to form a committee of talented PR folks who can raise the profile of the organization and highlight the work and value of this hardworking organization and its energetic, highly motivated board.
